What is Natural Breast Enlargement?
Natural breast enlargement or augmentation is in which the patient’s own fat is extracted from unwanted areas and injected into the breasts. By using the patient’s own tissue, the limited lifespan of breast implants may be overcome, and a more natural look is achieved.
How and where is the surgery done?
The procedure is done in an accredited AAAASF and state-certified facility. It is done under general anesthesia. The duration of the procedure is about 2 to 3 hours. It is done as an outpatient procedure.
Who is a good candidate for the procedure?
The Ideal candidates for natural breast augmentation are patients with youthful breasts whose nipples are above the inframammary fold. The presence of some minimal laxity, often caused by pregnancies, may favor the injection of bigger amounts of fat cells.
Obviously having some reserve of fat in unwanted locations will facilitate the process.
Are fat injections to the breast safe?
The answer is yes. There have been studies demonstrating that breast cancer screenings are unaffected by injecting fat in the breast for augmentation purposes.
How many sessions would I need to obtain the desired size?
It may take 2 to 3 sessions, depending on the number of cups sizes that the patient wants to increase. The use of fat for volume augmentation has been known to only obtain between 50-60% take of the injected cells. More importantly, the limiting factor for the injection volume is the original size of the target tissue.
What is the post-op recovery?
Following your procedure, you should plan for the following:
- 1 week off from work if non-physical
- No driving while taking narcotic medication
- No drains
- Swelling for 4-6 weeks
- Exercise: resume lower body activities at 1 week, upper body activities at 6 weeks
- Follow-up appointments after: one week, 6 weeks, 6 months, and 1 year
What complications could occur?
Natural breast augmentation is a relatively novel technique. Most patients have no problems; however, some possible complications are:
- Bruising (most frequent)
- Infection (<1%)
- Bleeding (<1%)
- Fat necrosis (hard lumps)
- Need for further sessions of fat grafting
- Loss of the original injected volume
