Laser skin resurfacing is a versatile treatment that can be used to alleviate a range of cosmetic concerns. ReNova Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa offers this and other medical spa services to the residents of Pittsburgh and the neighboring communities of Pennsylvania.
What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Skin resurfacing also known as skin tightening is the rejuvenation of the skin by elimination of the outer layer of the skin with laser technology.
The precise heat from this process exfoliates the skin cells, eliminating them from the body. This laser process also stimulates collagen production in the skin. As collagen increases, the body will use it to strengthen the skin and improve skin laxity.
At ReNova Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, we offer a Fraxel CO2 laser for laser skin resurfacing. With this system, we are able to provide safe and effective laser treatments for multiple skin types. Laser resurfacing can be used to address the following concerns:
- Wrinkles and lines
- Sun damage
- Acne and acne scars
- Scars and stretch marks
- Enlarged pores
- And more
How Much Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Cost?
The cost of laser skin resurfacing will vary depending on your needs but usually costs between $300 and $500. At ReNova Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, we calculate all our procedures on an individual basis, and will provide your unique pricing during your consultation.
To ensure all our procedures are financially accessible, we accept a wide range of payment options, including financing through Dollar Bank and CareCredit®.
Is Laser Resurfacing Right for Me?
If you would like to address any of the cosmetic concerns listed above without the use of surgery or other invasive techniques, you may be a good candidate for laser resurfacing. As with all our procedures, we are proud to offer financing options for the laser resurfacing treatment to make it a more affordable treatment for those who desire it.
How and Whereis the Fraxel or CO2 Laser Treatment Done?
During the laser resurfacing treatment, we will use one of our advanced laser systems to apply controlled laser energy to the desired treatment area. This may cause a warm or stinging sensation, but we can apply a topical anesthetic to minimize any discomfort.
The procedure is done in our office. It is done under topical anesthesia. The duration of the procedure is about 30 minutes to an hour depending on the extent of the affected areas. It is done as an outpatient procedure.
What is the Difference Between Laser Skin Resurfacing and Chemical Peels?
Skin tightening is done with LASER technology. This Light therapy is directed to the water contained within the skin. It may take 3 to 5 sessions to obtain the final results. It is a more progressive and gentle process.
Chemical peel is the application of control chemical acid to the skin. It is a one-time process but is the more aggressive one.
What is the Recovery From Laser Resurfacing Like?
After laser resurfacing, you may experience redness and sensitivity in the skin that is similar to a sunburn. The newly exposed skin will be susceptible to sun damage, so you may need to adjust your activities in order to protect the skin following treatment. However, these symptoms typically fade within about a week of treatment. Besides taking special care to avoid excessive sun exposure, you will be able to resume all normal activities immediately after treatment.
What Results Can I Expect from Laser Resurfacing?
The results from your laser resurfacing treatment can take a few weeks to become visible. After treatment, the skin will take a few days to heal as any side effects fade. You should notice improvements in hyperpigmentation, scarring, and other discoloration fairly soon.
Improvements in wrinkles, lines and other skin laxity concerns will develop over the following weeks as collagen production increases in the body. Most patients will require multiple laser resurfacing treatments to achieve their desired results. During your consultation, Dr. Clavijo will help you determine the best approach for your cosmetic goals.
What Complications Could Occur After Laser Skin Rejuvenation?
Some of the possible complications following your laser skin resurfacing Pittsburgh are:
- The area might have a temporary reddish pigmentation to it
- Sometimes slight swelling may be associated with the procedure
- Quick recovery is usually the norm
