How is Liposuction Performed?

The liposuction procedure is often performed with general anesthesia. This means that you will be asleep and entirely comfortable for the procedure. During the liposuction treatment, an incision will be made in the area of the body where fat is to be removed.

The size and location of these incisions will vary by patient, but Dr. Contogiannis makes every effort to keep incisions as small and as hidden as possible. Once incisions are made, a small metal tube, called a cannula, will be inserted into the pocket of fat. Then, a vacuum system removes this fat to produce the desired results.

Differences between Laser liposuction; ultrasonic (Vaser – Lysonix) liposuction; traditional or conventional liposuction; tumescent liposuction?

Traditional liposuction is the infiltration of fluid (tumescent solution) followed by suction of fat with a cannula. In addition to the liposuction we can add other procedures to melt the fat and facilitate its extraction. This includes ultrasound (either Vaser or Lysonix), or laser (Smartlipo). Once the fat is melted, the traditional or conventional liposuction is used to remove the melted fat.
